Here are few reasons why this will become your favorite fried rice recipe:
Easy – This meal will be ready in just 20 min! Have everything prepared beforehand and throw everything in a pan/wok as you watch the meal come together.
Customizable – Fried rice is one of the most customizable meals in the world. You can easily substitute the proteins used in this recipe to whatever you have on hand and YES! That goes for vegetables too. This is a perfect time to clean out your fridge!
Delicious – Every bite of this meal is filled with flavor! The rice is seasoned to perfection because of the combo of soy and oyster sauce; the proteins have their own unique marinade; and the yum yum sauce is the perfect tangy topping for this rice.
Meal Prep – This the PERFECT meal prep! Carbs, protein and vegetables. It’s the perfect formula to hit your daily macros.
Key Ingredients You’ll Need
- Steak – The absolutely best cut to use for this meal is obviously a tender ribeye or filet. A more budget friendly option would be top sirloin. All in all, use a cut of meat that stays tender when cooked quickly on high heat.
- Shrimp – This is the easiest seafood to use in a stir fry like fried rice because it cooks in 1-2 minutes and stays tender.
- Rice – Use any grain of rice you prefer. I like long grain rice.
- Vegetables – Get creative! Clean out your fridge and throw in your favorite vegetables.
- Soy & Oyster Sauce – A combo of soy AND oyster sauce I feel is key to a well balanced fried rice, whether you add protein or not.
- Eggs – What fried rice is complete without eggs. Scramble is authentic but you can certainly add a fried egg on top if you wish as well.
How to make Surf & Turf Fried Rice
#1. Marinate your surf & turf
#2. Make yum yum sauce
#3. Cook both proteins
#4. Sauté vegetables
#5. Add egg
6. Toss in day old rice
#7. Season rice
#8. Serve
Recipe Tips
#1 – Day Old Rice
Using day-old rice fries better because there is less moisture. This way you get those crispy bits and not soggy rice.
It’s always best to use day-old rice, but if you’re in a pinch cook rice a couple hours before and place in the freezer or fridge.
#2 – Tender steak
The best cuts of steak to use are ones that are going to cook fast and stay tender — filet, ribeye, top round or sirloin.
