The BEST Surf & Turf Fried Rice

A classic fried rice is an essential weekly dish in any home kitchen.

Ingredients
  

Marinade

  • 1 lb raw peeled & deveined shrimp
  • 1 lb top sirloin steak, diced **seasoning amounts per protein
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or coco aminos
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp white pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves, grated
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Rice

  • 2 cups  uncooked rice = 6 cups cooked rice
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1/3 cup frozen peas & carrots
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4-5 cups cooked, chilled day old rice
  • 1 tsp soy sauce or coco aminos
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/3 cup green onion, sliced

Garlic Butter

  • 1/3 cup butter, softened & unsalted
  • 2 garlic cloves, grated
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp soy sauce or coco aminos

Yum Yum Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1/2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ginger

Instructions
 

  • Mix softened, room temperature butter with grated garlic & ginger and soy sauce until fully combined.
  • Combine all the ingredients for the yum yum sauce and refrigerate while you prep & cool the rest of dish.
  • Marinate steak and shrimp for a minimum of 30 minutes with the seasonings above.
  • Cook both on medium high heat in a wok or large pan. Steak will only take about 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove and add shrimp. Cook until they change color — about a minute. Finish with a tsp of garlic butter (see recipe above) & remove.
  • In the same pan/wok, saute onions & carrots until softened.
  • Add minced garlic & ginger. Mix until fragrant.
  • Break up rice with your hands as you add it to your wok with sesame oil. Let this cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Season with soy sauce, oyster sauce. Toss and mix thoroughly until fully combined.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions.
